How to View (and Erase) Your Facebook Search History

Image
Whenever you search for something on Facebook, your search terms get stored in your Activity Log. Here's how to view it (and erase if, if you so desire). The Activity Log is only viewable by you, but if you want to erase any of your old searches for whatever reason—or even if you just want to view them (to find something you forgot)—it's really easy to find! Click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of Facebook, and head to Activity Log. From there, click the "More" button in the left sidebar to reveal the "Search" option. Click on it to view your search history. If you want to erase it, there's a button in the upper right-hand corner to do just that. I couldn't find a setting that turns this history off entirely, unfortunately, but again—the posts are only visible by you, so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

What is Hybrid Cloud?

Image
Before getting into any technology discussions/definition about Hybrid Cloud, it’s important to understand what value it potentially provides to businesses. In the most basic definition, “hybrid” means multiple things brought together to work as a unified system. For most businesses, this means that every function (Finance, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, etc.) will utilize whatever mix of resources provide them the most efficient combination of agility, cost and risk-management. IT should be not different. In fact, given the popularity of SaaS applications, most IT organizations have already deployed a variation of a “Hybrid Cloud” or at least “Hybrid IT”, where it makes sense for them to utilize outside resources for functionality that might not be core to their business (Core vs. Competency‎). From a business perspective, IT organizations that look for Hybrid Cloud solutions are seeking ways to maximize their ability to deliver technology solutions for their business, utilizing ...

Telkom ADSL speed increase update

Image
Telkom is completing its ADSL speed upgrade project today (26 February 2014). This project saw 1 Mbps ADSL lines upgraded to 2 Mbps, 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps, and 4 Mbps to 10Mbps. While most of Telkom’s ADSL clients have received the higher speeds, some clients could not be upgraded. The possible reasons for not upgrading a line include that the modem is switched off, the quality of the copper is too low for higher speeds, or the distance from the exchange is too far. Good news is that Telkom is addressing many of these issues. The company said that there is a continuous drive to upgrade all these customers to higher speeds. “Telkom will continue to interrogate these subscribers’ modems to ensure that we have included all the DSL subscribers in the upgrade project,” Telkom said.

Vodacom Twitter account hacked?

Image
Vodacom ’s official Twitter account seems to have been hacked. The account started repeatedly posting the same tweet 2–3 times per minute from about 01:10 on the morning of Tuesday, 25 February 2014. “The fastest way to burn off fat & lose weight featured & recommended from Dr Oz. show,” the tweet read, followed by a link that had been pushed through a URL shortener. Testing a sample of the hyperlinks at the end of the tweets suggested that even though they looked different (thanks to the URL shortener), they all pointed to the same site. Vodacom’s Twitter account was also posting reply messages to other users with what seemed to be a link to a phishing site. A Vodacom spokesperson was not immediately available to comment in the early hours of the morning.

Network router caused huge WhatsApp outage

Image
WhatsApp founder Jan Koum on Sunday issued an apology and blamed a network router for Saturday’s outage of the mobile messaging app. “We are sorry about the downtime,” wrote Koum. “It has been our longest and biggest outage in years. It was caused by a network router fault which cascaded into our servers.” “We worked with our service provider on resolving the issue and making sure it will not happen again.” WhatsApp was down for more than three hours on Saturday just days after Facebook bought it for $19 billion. The five-year old company currently has about 450 million users worldwide and is the leading smartphone-based messaging app.
